The keep, the castle’s sole remaining structure, overlooks the town and offers an exceptional view. The site invites visitors to discover its history, its military architecture, and its role in medieval life in the Béarn region.
On the first floor, an exhibition traces this prestigious history. In particular, you can see a facsimile of the “Book of Hunting,” an illustrated 14th-century manuscript.
In the former guardroom, a model recreates the castle as it once was. After climbing the 141 steps, you’ll reach the top of the keep and enjoy an exceptional panoramic view of the medieval town of Orthez and the majestic Pyrenees mountain range.
For those unable to reach the top, a 3D film allows you to experience the tour from the ground floor.
