Situated on the via Podiensis (or route du Puy), Sauvelade is a traditional Béarn village between Orthez and Mourenx.
Built in the 12th century by Benedictine monks, Sauvelade Abbey was later attached to the Order of Citeaux.
During your visit, you'll appreciate the sober decor of the church of St Jacques le Majeur, as well as the beautiful dome over the transept crossing and the Baroque-style altar.
